David Schleicher

David started working with his dad’s framing crew when he was 12 years old. He watched and admired how the builders would interact with clients. How they helped the homeowner navigate the build process, and held their hands every step of the way. 

Even at a young age David knew he wanted to build homes differently. He felt like there was a need for homes to be built to a higher standard. From his frustration with “cookie-cutter” home design and “traditional” building techniques, he discovered Passive House, the strictest energy and quality standard for construction in the world. Focused on innovative framing techniques and superior building envelope, Passive House creates premium indoor air quality and a 90% reduction in energy usage. He got into Passive House as a means to scientifically prove that the homes he was building were better, would last longer, require less maintenance, and enable healthier, happier lives for his customers. 

Most of what was being built in Kansas City was the opposite of David’s vision for the future of homebuilding, so in 2006 he founded Prairie Design Build. 

David is a licensed General Contractor and Certified Passive House Consultant. His knowledge and experience in home building coupled with his drive and passion for building better has enabled him to pioneer the high performance home building industry in Kansas City.
